The South African filmmaker and well loved Nompumelelo Ngqula died last week Thursday evening, and her family officially made the announcement on Friday, 16th March.
Ngqula was the major producer who worked on the award-winning series named iThemba.

She was a creative force, an award-winning producer, and writer. Her creativity knew no bounds running the breadth from writing searing and thought-provoking articles, to executive producing films and series through her production company Pixel Perfect Productions, which were enjoyed by people across the continent”.
Ngpula’s was truly loved when she was alive as her fans and well wishers have been paying tribute to her since the news of her demise. Her family through their spokesperson have requested privacy that they she be left alone to grieve their loss. Indeed Ngpula was a creative personality, an award-winning movie producer, and excellent writer. Among her greatest works is “Ithemba” which gained national attention. She was defined by her family as a talented, hardworking, and creative artist.
It is also important to note that the family of the deceased further requested privacy as they grieve Ngqula.
Another family spokesperson stated; “We are so thankful for the countless messages of love, the prayers, and support received. These are felt deeply and are keeping us going in this dark hour and we ask that you continue to lift us in prayer.”

I have worked in the creative/broadcasting space since 2013, starting off in the marketing department of the BMW SA Open as a production assistant. In 2014, I joined Pixel Perfect Production as a Digital Content Producer, as well as a production manager for their sports content with Supersport. In 2016, Pixel Perfect Productions began producing TV films for Mzansi Magic. I began writing the stories for the team, and liaising with the writers and channel around the creative elements of production. I was promoted to Creative Producer in 2017.
We have produced 16 films for Mzansi Magic to date, with 6 of the films reaching the top 30 programs of the month on the DSTV platform. Pixel Perfect Productions expanded in 2017 and as a result of this, I promoted to Executive Producer: Creative Development. My duties include: Managing the writing room, overlooking graphic design, managing the music composition process, as well as managing client relationships.
In 2018 we were commissioned by Mzansi Magic to create the 13 part drama series iThemba, which rated highly throughout its run in 2019 on Mzansi Magic. I had the opportunity to write three episodes of the series, as well as script editing the series.
iThemba was nominated for a South African Film and Television Award in 2020, and won the award.
iThemba has also won two ProMax Africa Awards in 2020.
